Alfred Tennyson (1809 – 1892)
The Eagle
Fragment
He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring’d with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.
(1833, publ. 1851)
Alfred Tennyson (1809 – 1892)
Der Adler
Fragment
Um Gneis krallt sich die krumme Hand;
Nahe am Licht im weiten Land,
Im Himmels-Azur ist sein Stand.
Die See tobt unter ihm, zerspellt;
Von Gipfeln schaut er auf die Welt,
Wenn er als Blitz hernieder fällt.
(1833, publ. 1851)
